Ground-Conjugate Wide Field Adaptive Optics for the ELTs
نویسنده
چکیده
Ground-conjugate wide eld AO is presented and preliminary performance results are given, which show that signi cant seeing improvement can be achieved over 10-20 arcmin eld of view. A proposal for an ELT AO system is sketched.

Tomographic reconstruction for wide-field adaptive optics systems: Fourier domain analysis and fundamental limitations.
Several wide-field-of-view adaptive optics (WFAO) concepts such as multi-conjugate AO (MCAO), multi-object AO (MOAO), and ground-layer AO (GLAO) are currently being studied for the next generation of Extremely Large Telescopes (ELTs). All these concepts will use atmospheric tomography to reconstruct the turbulent-phase volume. In this paper, we explore different reconstruction algorithms and th...

In the last few years, new Adaptive Optics [AO] techniques have emerged to answer new astronomical challenges: Ground-Layer AO [GLAO] and Multi-Conjugate AO [MCAO] to access a wider Field of View [FoV], Multi-Object AO [MOAO] for the simultaneous observation of several faint galaxies, eXtreme AO [XAO] for the detection of faint companions. In this paper, we focus our study to one of these appli...
متن کاملScaled Atmospheric Blooming Experiments (SABLE)
II The SABLE field experiments investigated the use of phase-conjugate adaptive optics to compensate for strong thermal blooming and turbulence. The experiments, conducted at the TRW Capistrano Test Site in southern California over horizontal paths of 100 and 400 m, were designed to explore issues related to the propagation ofhigh-power lasers from the ground to space. The laser used in the exp...

Extremely large telescopes (ELTs) are the next generation of ground-based reflecting telescopes of optical wavelengths. ELTs possess an aperture of more than 20 meters and share a number of common features, particularly the use of a segmented primary mirror and adaptive optics systems. In 2005, the European Southern Observatory introduced a new giant telescope concept, named the European Extrem...
